Cartel To Break From "Bubble" with June 12th Concert on NYC Pier
|
|
On June 12th, Cartel will break from the "Bubble" with a concert on Hudson River Park's Pier 54 in New York City. The performance will serve as the grand finale to MTV's "Band in a Bubble Presented by Dr Pepper," a four-part music series that documented the band's 20 days spent locked inside a transparent bubble, where they've been living while recording a new album live for all the world to see. The concert, which will air live in its entirety on www.drpepperbubble.com and partially on MTV, will see the band previewing several songs recorded while inside the bubble, including new lead single, "Lose It." The event will also officially kick off Hudson River Parks' RiverRocks summer concert series presented by Dr Pepper.
"Lose It," which features guest vocals by Epic Records labelmate/Automatic Loveletter frontwoman Juliet Simms, will be available on iTunes on June 12th. Cartel's highly anticipated new—and self-titled—album will be in stores on August 21st.
The media and fans alike have been buzzing about Cartel, who on May 24th sealed themselves inside a huge transparent bubble on Pier 54, where they've been holed up while working on the follow-up to their breakthrough debut CHROMA. Twenty-three live web cams have been streaming the Atlanta quintet's every move, offering fans an unprecedented real-time look into the ups and downs of the creative process. Cartel recorded the album with producers Zack Odom and Kenneth Mount, the same team behind CHROMA.
Fans have seen everything from the band members' waking moments and creative differences to jam sessions and appearances by special guests, including acclaimed producer and multiplatinum artist Wyclef Jean. During the course of the recording process, the band enlisted The Boys and Girls Choir of Harlem Alumni Ensemble to sing on a few tracks and also auditioned various New York City street musicians to perform on the record.

In what's sure to be the most talked-about music event of the year, CARTEL are sealing themselves inside a huge transparent bubble on Hudson River Park's Pier 54 in NYC, where they’ll eat, sleep and breathe while writing and recording a new album live for all the world to see. Lending new meaning to the term "up close and personal," Band in a Bubble presented by Dr Pepper is a groundbreaking interactive multimedia event that will offer fans an unprecedented real-time look into the ups and downs of the creative process as Cartel shapes the highly anticipated follow-up to their breakthrough debut, CHROMA.
Cartel will enter the bubble during a live MTV broadcast on May 24 and live there with no escape until the bubble “bursts” on June 12, when they will perform new material in a concert event on the pier.
Web cams will stream live on www.drpepperbubble.com and the event will air as a special reality series with four 30-minute episodes on MTV, which will also be available on-demand at MTV.com.

We've made the turn and are now heading down the home stretch of shows before resting our heads back home in Atlanta, GA. However, these past few weeks have been the best yet. We've been having killer crowds and we have the wonderful cities of Chicago, Detroit, and Pittsburgh to thank for that. We've also meet some new friends as well. All my people.....chillin right now. Portland, or is beautiful.....nice people, nice place. Got some days off til saturday. Love it. Played golf yesterday. Decent round....couldn't get off the tee well but I was putting the lights out and I can work with that. Hit the irons fairly well. Just a tough course....short and tight. Oh well. Gonna go catch a movie today..not sure which. Bought some magazines....xbox mag especially. We're artists of the month now so they had a blurb in there about it. It never gets old seeing yourself in a mag. Funny every time. Got pumped cuz halo 3 is coming out. Wow. Picking up ncaa football 07 today......stoked. All I can say. Kev, kyle, and I are in another world right now hanging out. Love it. I miss athens sometimes....nice place. Good friends. Writing a song about it....you'll hear it on the next record.....think a pop jam version of ryan adams' "dear chicago"......amazing.

A Note About Ryan
|

Not the most chipper of news here but no worries. Ryan Roberts, our bass player, has decided to leave the band. It's hard to write any of this while trying to avoid cliche things that 100 bands have put before us so we'll just go for it. This split is totally amicable and the friendship is still there...our friend Jeff Lett will be filling in for him at all future shows. The Cartel train is in full force and we're stoked for the re-release of Chroma next week. Warped Tour will be stupid fun with all of you and we can't wait. We will miss our friend but wish him well. Take care of yourselves.

A Note From Will

Hello all my fine friends. Will here just giving you an update on all that is Cartel.
We finished up our first ever headlining tour last sunday and let me be the first to say that it was a HUGE success due completely to all you wonderful people who made it out to the shows and hung out with us. i believe that 9 of the 16 shows were sellouts. We didn't expect that at all and to be able to do that on this tour is awesome. We can't express how awesome all of you were and how much fun we had on this tour. A big thanks goes out to the bands who supported us as they were amazing every night and were nothing but good people to be around for the whole tour....our only regret is that it only lasted 2 weeks. Be sure to check them out: Hit The Lights (they have a full length that came out last month), The Summer Obsession (they have a full length coming out in august), and last but most certainly not least...Permanent Me (they have an ep out right now on I Surrender Records....go check it out....it's good.)
We'll be pitter-patting around for the next week and a half or so until Warped Tour. We'll be playing Columbus, OH on Wednesday June 7th at Little Brothers for the CD101 show and i believe we'll be at the station early on in the day to play some songs acoustic and just chill with all the peeps...check the radio website for all that info.
We're doing an in-store at Criminal Records in Little Five Points, ATL...if you're unfamiliar just roll down moreland and look for the band in the parking lot around 6 p.m. on Tuesday the 13th which brings us to the next bit of news.....
OUR RECORD IS RE-RELEASING THAT DAY!!!! please go check it out if you have downloaded it or lost it or have an excess of cash. this is big for us. we need all your support. a few indie stores have the Live Dudes EP which is pretty cool. 3 live songs from atlanta so if you're from ATL you might just hear yourself singing! that would be cool.
so....other than all that we'll be on Warped Tour all summer so i'll be dropping periodic updates for all you peeps with special behind-the-scenes pics and such. word up.

Hey all you lovely people. We're almost done with the screaming is for babies tour and I wanted to let you guys know what we've got going on in the next month before warped.
Big news is that we'll be headlining May 11-28 all up and down the east. All tickets for these shows are now on sale so go get yours before they get gone. To find a show near you go to our shows page and check it out. We'll be playing a selection of the latest and greatest from Chroma and The Ransom so come hang out with us before summer rolls around.
We'll also be playing this year's Flipside Festival in Virginia so come catch us there May 7th.

Hey everybody...its been a while since we've updated everyone on cartel haps. We've been real busy with a lot of new things and our web server has been switching around. Anywho....
Thanks to everyone who voted on yahoo's who's next contest. It is a huge honor and it was a ton of fun. I hope you all enjoyed joseph and I's stand up routine in the interview. So again....thank you so much.
Being on epic records is a huge event in the cartel world. We are so stoked for the opportunity to have more peeps privy to the cartel rock.
Everyone there is genuinely stoked on our band and the record and it will surely show in the coming months. The partnership will only lead to bigger and better things for us and we're excited to bring it to all of you who have listened to our band and come to shows in the last few years. We will never forget or underappreciate everything the fans have done for us. The way we see it....we wouldn't be able to do anything like this without you guys and gals. I consider it a symbiotic relationship where our success is your success and we will always do our part to return that to you guys in whatever way possible. We're all friends here. We love you. This tour with The Starting Line has been incredible and these last few days have been very busy so I haven't had a chance to update the tour journal over at mammothpress.com but I will be doing it post haste. There are a lot of exciting things going on in Cartel Land right now and this year is shaping up to be stellar. After this tour, we'll be rolling out on a headlining tour with Hit The Lights, Permanent Me, and The Summer Obsession. Should be a good one. We're pumped. That will go down in may. Otherwise, please come out and see us on tour now. Thanks to all of you who have already come out and rocked with us. We 'preciate that. Yo peeps. Writing from the road here. We're holed up in Madison, WI in preparation for tomorrow's show in Minneapolis. Just a few things. The tour rules. Awesome dudes. Awesome tunes. Awesome fans at the show.
We are playing early. We'll be playing 2nd at every show so be there when the doors open or you may miss us. We'd all hate that.

Preparing For The Road

Hey everyone. We're enjoying our time off at home right now. Seeing friends, etc. we've been practicing pretty heavy as of late and we are so excited for the kickoff to The Starting Line Tour (Screaming Is For Babies) with Copeland and Gatsby's American Dream. As a reminder, not all of the tickets for all the shows are on sale yet. That is, if you don't see the tickets are available yet don't worry...they will be. Also, we are playing ALL of the shows with this tour so if you only see The Starting Line and Copeland listed don't worry, we're still there. With that being said we're really happy to be seeing all of you again real soon and keep checking the shows page for additions to our schedule. Good things for 2006 in cartel land. Home for the Holidays

Hey peeps. First off I want to apologize to those who came to the shows in baltimore and jacksonville expecting to see cartel and didn't get it. I was very sick and had no voice at all. We will make it up to you guys in some form or fashion.
We just finished the tour with Terminal/The Working Title. Please go check out those bands. They are very good and are good dudes to boot. We will miss them.
Tickets for our upcoming tour with The Starting Line, Copeland, and Gatsby's American Dream are starting to go on pre-sale. Go scoop them up on ticketmaster.com before its too late.
We will be playing a show at Harding University in Searcy, AK with Copeland on Jan. 27th. If you live in the area come check out a preview of half of the Screaming is for Babies Tour.
Lastly, "rocking around the christmas tree" is still up for download through the rest of the month on AOL. Go check it out if you haven't already.
Alright....now lastly, we got out of the studio with Matt Goldman recently recording our cover of Oasis's "Wonderwall" for Fearless Records Comp End of an Era: Punk Goes 90's. Look for more news about that soon.

Back From Japan - Hittin' the East Coast

Hello again. We are all safe and sound back in the U.S. Of A. We're happy to be home of course. The Working Title tour starts tomorrow in Charleston, SC....we invite all of our friends in coastal SC to come rock with us. All of the dates for the tour are on the site and our myspace. We can't wait to see you there.

Take Cover No More... Shows at Home...

Hey everyone. The take cover tour is over and we are glad to be home and resting. Our rest will be short though so we can't get too comfortable. We'll be playing a few regional shows including one tomorrow at the masquerade with One Way Letter and Celeste. Tickets are available through ticketmaster. Anywho. We'll be going to japan next month to be followed by a co-headlining run with The Working Title on the east coast before the holidays. All is good in Cartel land and we're really excited for things to come in the rest of the year. Check the shows page to see if we'll be swinging through your neck of the woods. The Downtown Stuff and AOL

hello again. couple things.
the show scheduled for Oct. 5th at The Downtown in Long Island is not cancelled, but it has moved to the Crazy Donkey. i've been told it's only 10 minutes from the downtown so that's good to know. in order to get a refund you must send the ticket back to the downtown with your name and address and they will send you a check back as your refund. it is highly recommended that you send it with delivery confirmation so that there are no mishaps where you dont get your money. other than that we'll see all of you on the 5th at the crazy donkey
next tidbit is that "Honestly" will be up for download on AOL on Friday the 30th of this month. we need to get as many downloads as possible so that AOL takes notice and adds us to Top 40 radio on their page. it's a big deal for us and all the support we can get will be much appreciated. we might even do something special. you never know. anyway. that's about it for now. we'll have some news later on this week. until then, take care and we'll see you at the shows.

hey everyone....exciting day, exciting day. our debut full length CHROMA comes out in stores TODAY. i can't even begin to tell you how excited about it we are. you can pick it up at a lot of different stores... Walmart, FYE, sam goody, wherehouse, circuit city, best buy, borders, hastings, hot topic, tower, virgin, strawberries, and coconuts. there are a ton of independent stores too so check them out if you can't find it for some reason.
Please go out and pick it up. if you haven't heard the leak already you can head on over to purevolume.com and hear 30 sec clips of each song and full versions of honestly and others. we can't wait to get out there and keep playing for you guys so keep on coming to the shows....you've been awesome so far and we're so looking forward to getting back to the east coast and all the cities in between. we love you. we'll see you soon and go pick up our freakin record.

hey everyone....long time no update....lots of news. so by now most of you have probably heard the leak on absolutepunk.net. that has been such a great success and we'd like to say thank you to all who listened and enjoyed and left positive feedback. also a big thanks to absolutepunk.net for doing it. right on. if you haven't listened yet you can go over there and listen to the whole album until sept 13 when only a couple songs will be left up there.
we're having a wonderful time on the take cover tour and are currently in vegas starting the west coast swing. we got down at mandalay bay last night and cruised the karaoke at the House of Blues.....fun times. anywho. we can't wait to get to the rest of the tour and some of our favorite cities. and of course, we can't wait to see you.
we'll be doing a chat on the 8th (thursday) at forthesound.com so go sign up and get in on the action.

hello everyone.....thanks so much for all your comments on the new site....we love it too. sorry for the lack of update...we were busy trying to figure out how. anywho, all the bugs are worked out now so we're off and rolling. we have a lot of shows coming up in atlanta in the next few weeks so you have multiple times to check us out before we leave for tour again.
